Shoes

Heel Height and Platform Height

heel height

A - Heel Height - The heel height is measured at the outsole from the middle of the heel to the sole.

B - Platform Height - The platform height is measured at the outsole from the foot bed to the sole.

hidden height

A - Hidden Platform Height - Hidden platforms are shoes with material wrapped over platform bed, making it appear as if the shoe is one entire piece of material. Platform heights should be measured where the foot rests in the bed to the sole of the shoe.

Boots

boots

A - Circumference - The measurement around the inside of the boot at the largest part on the upper calf.

B - Shaft - The height of the shaft measured from the middle of the arch up the outsole of the boot to the top of the boot shaft in inches.

Roller Blades

blades

A - Frame Length - Measurement from the front tip of wheel frame to the back (this may include brakes on in-line skates).

B - Wheel Distance - Measured from the center of one wheel to the center of the next wheel.

C - Wheel Diameter - (inches): Diameter of the wheel.

D - Circumference (inches) - The measurement around the shaft of the boot at the largest part of the calf.

Bags & Luggage

Width and Straps

bag width

A - Width - This is the measurement of the width of the item at the bottom.

straps

A - Strap length – Maximum measurement of a bags shoulder/handle length from end to end.

B - Shoulder/Handle/Accessory Strap Drop - Measurement of the strap(s), handle, or accessory strap(s) from top of the bag (at center) to the peak of the strap/handle.

Straps/Handle drops measuring less than 6 3/4” are typically carried in the hand or on the arm.

Straps/Handle drops measuring 7” – 20 ¾” are typically carried on the shoulder.

Strap drops measuring 20” or more are typically worn in a cross-body or messenger fashion.

C - Height - Measurement of how tall the bag stands from the bottom surface to the top of the bag (this does not include the top of the straps or handles).

Handles

extended handles

A - Extended Pull-Handles (found on Luggage) Short measurement - Measured when the pull handle is extended at the shortest distance, from the base of the handle grip to the top of the bag.

Depth

depth

A - Depth - Measurement of how deep the bag is from the front panel to the back panel.

B - Extended Depth - Extended depth is used for bags that can extend beyond regular depth. Typical styles with extended measurements are backpacks and luggage that unzip to allow for more storage space.

Eyewear

A - Lens Width & Height - Measurement of the width and the height of the lens glass, not including the frame.

B - Frame Width - The total frame width from one hinge to the other.

C - Bridge Width - The width of the space between the frame that rests on the nose.

A - Temple Length - Measured from the arm (at the temple) to the end of the ear wrap/stem.

Watches

band

A - Band Length/Circumference (inches): Measurement of the band from tip to tip. If it is a one piece band, measure the outside of the watch band circumference.

B - Band Width - The width of the band.

bevel

A - Case Height (inches): Diameter/length of the face from top to bottom.

B - Case Width (inches): Diameter across the face of the watch from side to side, not including stem(s).

C - Case Depth (inches): The thickness of the watch measuring from the surface of the glass to the base of the watch.

Clothing

Bottoms

bottoms

A - Front Rise - Measurement from the top of the waistband to the crotch at the front of the pants.

B - Inseam - Measurement of the leg length from center of the crotch to bottom hem of pant leg.

C - Leg Opening - Diameter of the leg opening (at the bottom of pant leg) measured across the inside. Multiply this number by 2 for the final measurement.

D - Back Rise - Measurement from the top of the waist band to the crotch on the rear of the pants.

E - Outseam - Measurement of the leg length from the top of the waist band at the hip to the bottom hem of the pant leg.

F - Waist - Diameter of the waist inside of the top seam. Multiply this number by 2 for the final measurement.

Tops

torso length

A - Torso Lengths - All tops/nightgowns/chemises/robes, etc. are measured from the neckline to the bottom hem.

chest neck

A - Chest - Measurement across the chest, from arm pit to arm pit when laid flat, multiplied by 2 for the final measurement.

B - Neck Circumference - Button the collar fully and measure around the inside of the neck hole.

sleeve

A - Sleeve Length - Measurement of the sleeve on long sleeve shirts. Length is measured from the base of the neck (middle of shoulders) across the shoulder and down the arm to the bottom of the cuff.

Dresses

dress

A - Dress Length - Dress length is measured from the collar of the garment to the bottom hem.

Kids Specific

footsie front

A - Footies Shoulder to Toe - Measure from the top of the shoulder to the base of the heel on the back of the piece.

onsies

A - Onsies Shoulder to crotch - Measure from the top of the shoulder to the crotch along the back of the piece.

Body Suits

body suit

Biker shorts and body suits are measured on a model form to obtain a more accurate measurement.

A - Inseam - Measurement of the leg length from center of the crotch to bottom hem of body suit.

Swim

board shorts

A - Front Rise - Measurement from the top of the waistband to the crotch at the front of the board short.

B - Inseam - Measurement of the leg length from center of the crotch to bottom hem of board short.

C - Leg Opening - Diameter of the leg opening (at the bottom of board short) measured across the inside. Multiply this number by 2 for the final measurement.

D - Back Rise - Measurement from the top of the waist band to the crotch on the rear of the board short.

E - Outseam - Measurement of the leg length from the top of the waist band at the hip to the bottom hem of the board short.

F - Waist - Diameter of the waist inside of the top seam. Multiply this number by 2 for the final measurement.

Length - For the smallest waist size - belts are measured from where the belt band begins to the first band hole. For the largest waist size, belts are measured from where the belt band begins to the last band hole.

Most measurements for the size waist that they purchased at were measured from where the belt band begins to the second to last band hole.

Sporting Goods

Snowboards

snowboard front

A - Running Length: The length of board that is actually in contact with the snow.

B - Waist Width (inches): The width of the snowboard at its most narrow point.

snowboard back

A - Effective Edge (BURTON brand only): The length of edge between the nose and tail of the board that is in contact with the snow (measured along the curved edge rather than in a straight line).

B - Ref Stance Width: The range of stances available on a particular snowboard.

Skateboards

A - Board width (inches): Width of the board from side to side.

B - Board length (inches): Length of the board from front to back.

C - Distance between wheels widthwise (inches): The distance between the front two wheels (inside to inside).

D - Distance between wheels lengthwise (inches): The distance between the front and back wheels.

A - Height off ground (inches): Height from the bottom of the wheel to the top of the board.

B - Wheel Diameter (millimeters): Diameter of the wheel.

skateboard wheel

A - Wheel Depth (millimeters): Depth of the wheel. Use calipers when measuring wheel depth.
